Today is April Fool’s Day and I wish you have a very happy day today. Don’t worry, I won’t be making a fool out of you today although I have been reading a few blog posts and the authors were apparently trying to play pranks on the readers by announcing some shocking news on blog acquisition. Anyway, we should be in the mood to celebrate April Fool’s Day rather than taking things too seriously. Just to have some fun after a hard day’s work!

How did April Fool’s Day come about then? I had just made a search and found the definition from Wikipedia. Here it goes :

So, this is the definition of April Fool’s Day. We should not get angry with our friends, families or colleagues if they were to make practical jokes on us. Also, we should stay alert and prepare for being the target on April Fool’s Day.

However, there was such a heart-breaking April Fool’s Day happening 5 years ago and I’m not going to forget about it forever. It was a sad news and I came to know that one of my most favorite artistes had chosen to end his life on the April Fool’s Day. I used to listen to his songs when I was a student and his songs accompanied me whenever I feel lonely.

How I wish the shocking news that I had received by watching the TV news 5 years ago was indeed an April Fool’s hoax. However, it turned out to be a fact. Too bad and so sad. The shocking news was that the super pop-star, Leslie Cheung from Hong Kong, had jumped to his death from 24th storey of the Mandarin hotel. Leslie was a talented artiste who got a pretty face. He can sing, dance and act well. Nobody knows the reason as to why he had to commit suicide by jumping down from a tall building.

Some of the people only knew that Leslie Cheung was in deep depression at that moment and also he had had some kind of sickness. It seemed like nobody was able to attend to his needs and helps when he was in trouble. Probably he was disappointed with the reality and life. Maybe this is the reason why Leslie Cheung had sarcastically chosen April Fool’s Day to take action and to call it a day forever. What a sad and disheartening April Fool’s Day in 2003. Today is Leslie Cheung’s 5th death anniversary and we shall remember Leslie forever.
